Primary (1:3-4) & Team nursing (RN/LPN team for 6-8 pts) is utilized
Typical pt diagnosis:
Chest pain, GI bleed, COPD, post-pacemaker insertions, post ICD insertions (implantable defibrillators), CHF, asthma, medical telemetry patients, pre/post diagnostics & interventions, multiple system medical cardiac patients
Common skills utilized:
Stepdown level acuity, all patients on telemetry (centrally monitored)
Most common meds / those nurses must be familiar with:
Antibiotics, antihypertensives, antiarrythmics, insulin, heparin
Care extenders used:
Nurse Care Techs (“super-C.N.A.s”), PCTs, Nurse Techs
Certification for Differential:
CMSRN (Cert Medical-Surgical RN), through AMSN or PCCN (ACCN)
